Possums in Roofs

Possums in Roof spaces must be stopped from Getting in.

Once you have established that there are possums in your roof it’s wise to take action to prevent them getting in right away.

THE LONGER a POSSUM is in YOUR ROOF, the HARDER it is to KEEP it OUT.

Possums are territorial and if you hear noises for the first time, chances are that it’s a young possum which has taken up residence and therefore hasn’t had a chance to get too used to the area in your roof, thus when the hole is blocked they will move away and find somewhere else to live.

An Old Possum on the other hand will tenaciously chew at your roof in an attempt to get back into “their home”.

Territorial Possums will do anything to get back into "Their Home"

They will continue this for ages until they work out that there is no way of getting in then they go and find some other place to live.

If left in the roof they start to mark their territory with scent from their scent glands and urine. For a little animal they have a huge bladder!

Up in your ceiling they wander around and flatten out your insulation, poo everywhere and if they’ve been there for a long time they will urinate everywhere, sometimes even staining down the walls visible from inside your house.

It’s not advisable to leave them in your roof too long.

Just as it isn’t a good idea to feed them, this only attracts them and then they become a nuisance.
